Do you use antiaging products? I do and I’d like to introduce my current favorite product from Innisfree.
🇬🇧 Innisfree Jeju Lava Seawater Deep Essence Review
1. The Brand
Innisfree is a South Korean cosmetics brand owned by the conglomerate Amore Pacific. It was launched in 2002 and is known for its eco-friendly and naturalism-oriented products. Most of the brand’s physical stores are located in Asia but thanks to the internet, their products are available internationally. Their products range from makeup to skin care for women and for men.
2. The product
The Jeju lava seawater deep essence (available for shopping here, this is where I bought mine) is an antiaging skin care formulated with ceramides and Jeju lava seawater (of course!). Presented as a moisture boost, it claims to activate the skin’s hydration for firmer and smoother skin.
Innisfree markets Jeju lava seawater as rich in minerals which may bring benefits to the skin.
Ceramides are lipid components already found in cell membrane, especially in the outer layer of the skin where they are the main component. They create a water-impermeable layer to prevent the skin from water-loss and from the entry of microorganisms. By adding ceramides in the formula, they might enhance the skin barrier function.
The product is part of the 6-free system, meaning it’s free of parabens, animal ingredients, synthetic pigments, mineral oil, fragrance and imidazolidinyl urea (an anti-microbial preservative related to formaldehyde). It is always nice to see that brands pay attention to the ingredients in their products!
Packaging: It comes in a deep blue (pretty but bulky) plastic packaging of 50 mL. It’s also delivered in a cardbox. The deep essence is dispensed via a pump.
Instructions: It says to be used after skin toner (which is exactly what I have done so far).
SEA WATER, SQUALANE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERIN, METHYL GLUCETH-20, PCA DIMETHICONE, HYDROXYPROPYL BISPALMITAMIDE MEA, CHOLESTERYL NONANOATE, CITRUS UNSHIU PEEL EXTRACT, ORCHID EXTRACT, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, CAMELLIA JAPONICA LEAF EXTRACT, OPUNTIA COCCINELLIFERA FRUIT EXTRACT, MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, MANNITOL, SUCROSE, STEARIC ACID, ADENOSINE, AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, ZEA MAYS (CORN) STARCH, XANTHAN GUM, PEG-100, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, DISODIUM EDTA, PHENOXYETHANOL, FRAGRANCE
Let’s talk about some interesting ingredients:
- Sea water from Jeju (I suppose since it’s not mentioned) is rich in minerals.
- Squalane is a high emollient naturally found in the skin. Its functions are similar to the ceramide’s.
- Glycerin is a humectant, meaning that it attracts water from the surrounding and helps keep that moisture in the skin. It is also naturally found in the skin.
- HYDROXYPROPYL BISPALMITAMIDE MEA is a ceramide which properties I have talked above.
Just from reading the ingredient list, I strongly believed that it would be an excellent moisturizer for summer time.
3. Why I chose that product
No mystery. Since I read the review from Jude Chao, aka Fiddy Snails that she did on the other product from the same line, the Jeju lava seawater essence, in 2016, I have kept the product in my wish-list deep in my mind. She rated that product 4/5, as “Pretty good. Would buy again unless I find something better.”
However, I intentionally bought the deep essence since I preferred the ingredients in it and was curious about its texture.
4. My thoughts
Even though it wasn’t love at first sight because I find the packaging a bit too bulky, I love using that product morning and evening.
When pumped out, the deep essence looks like a textured gel lotion but when you spread it, it becomes very watery and blends easily.
What I liked: I enjoy the texture of the deep essence, how it quickly melts into a watery essence that penetrates the skin quickly. It gives me both hydration and moisture, and after application, my skin feels smooth and comfortable.
I have oily skin, so I use it as my essence and moisturizer under sunscreen (we have a hot spring in Paris this year). The scent is herbal and fresh and a little goes a long way.
I can’t tell if my skin is firmer but I guess that with those hydration and moisture properties, it should also help in that area.
What I didn’t: Err, nothing that I dislike.
Would I repurchase it? Yes if I hadn’t bought that many moisturizers!
My rate: 4.5/5, a hydrating and moisture-boost deep essence.
