At night, I never miss the cleansing step in my skincare routine and I have been enjoying this La Roche-Posay product for a few years now.
🇬🇧 La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel review
1. The Brand
La Roche-Posay is a quite well-known French cosmetics brand owned by L’Oréal under the Active Cosmetics line with Vichy and Skinceuticals brands. The brand name comes from a French homonym city where a rich-selenium content thermal spring water was discovered centuries ago. As selenium is an antioxidant with skincare properties, the water is included in all the products since 1975. La Roche-Posay doesn’t only offer several skincare lines geared toward each skin type, but also makeup products.
In my skincare routine, I always use at least one La Roche-Posay’s product, especially their sunscreens.
2. The product
The Purifying Foaming Gel is from the Effaclar line, designed for oily imperfection-prone skins to
eliminate impurities and excess sebum and live the skin clear and refreshed.
The gel has a pH of 5.5 which is the skin pH in order to be less irritant. It’s also soap-free, colorant-free, alcohol-free and paraben-free.
Packaging: I bought a big 400 mL plastic botlle but you can find smaller formats. No cardboard box comes with it.
Instructions: Lather the gel between wet hands and apply to the face by massaging the skin gently. Rinse thoroughly.
AQUA / WATER
SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE
PEG-120 METHYL GLUCOSE DIOLEATE
PARFUM / FRAGRANCE.
Notice the SLS (sodium laureth sulfate) ingredient on the second position => If you have really sensitive skin, I suggest you not buy that product.
3. Why I chose that product
I have actually used it since my teenage years, so, quite a long time ago but from time to time, I chose to try other products (my obsession to find the best product).
At night, I always double cleanse with an oil cleanser first (coconut oil atm) followed by a foaming gel or a cleanser that foams since I’m a foaming freak.
4. My thoughts
After trying many foaming cleansers, I find that this one does its job nicely like all the other ones I have tried actually.
When pumped out, the gel is clear and has a fresh chemical smell I am not very into. It lathers well and get rid of the makeup + sunscreen + oil cleansing layers all at once when I rinse it. My face doesn’t feel dry (remember I have oily skin) and feels soft to the touch.
What I liked: How it lathers and how my face feels after double cleansing, with no residues left and no dryness. It feels fresh (but that could be because of the water splashing lol).
I also support the environmental friendliness of the packaging: the plastic tube and the pump are ideal for its usage.
What I didn’t: The detergent-like smell, but I quickly rinse after applying the foam to my face so it’s okay.
Would I repurchase it? Yes. I have already repurchased it 10 times and plan to do it again.
My rate: 4/5, an effective foaming gel.
